How the workflow differs

With Opus Clip you start from a long video: upload a file of up to 10 hours or import one from YouTube, Google Drive, Vimeo, Zoom and other sources. ClipAnything usually takes 20 to 40 minutes, then returns clips with a Virality Score from 0 to 99 (on Starter and Pro), captions and 9:16 reframing. You adjust captions and layout in its clip editor, then post to YouTube Shorts, TikTok and Instagram Reels from Starter, or schedule on Pro.

Each minute of uploaded video costs 1 credit, so a 60-minute podcast uses 60 credits. Starter’s 150 credits cover about 2.5 hours of source video a month, and one Pro pack (300 credits) covers about 5 hours.

With CapCut you start from the timeline. Its long-video-to-short tool can pick highlights and add subtitles in one click, but the main workflow is manual: trim, add captions, pick templates, effects and sound, adjust timing and export. That takes longer per clip and gives you full control over each one.

You can also combine them: find and score clips in Opus Clip, download them, then finish the ones that matter in CapCut. Opus Pro also exports XML for Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve if you edit there instead.

Which should you choose?

Choose Opus Clip if your content starts long, such as podcasts, streams, webinars or interviews, and you want many clips a week without cutting them yourself. It finds the moments, scores them, reframes them and posts them, from the web or its iPhone app. Starter is enough to test it; Auto SFX, dubbing, more aspect ratios and the scheduler need Pro.

Choose CapCut if you make videos clip by clip and care about every detail: transitions, text, effects, music and timing. It is free to start, it runs on every device, and it can also pull highlights from a long video, but you will do more of the finishing yourself.

If you clip a weekly show, Opus Clip saves the most time. If you make one or two polished shorts a day, CapCut gives you the most control.

Where StoryCut fits

Disclosure: StoryCut publishes this comparison. StoryCut does a lighter version of both jobs in one browser tab. Its AI clips take an upload of 2 to 150 minutes or a YouTube link (up to 2 hours) and return 3 to 12 vertical clips with captions, a 0 to 100 virality score and reframing around faces and the active speaker. It counts long videos rather than minutes: 1 a month on Free, 10 on Starter ($7/mo billed yearly), 50 on Pro and 100 on Business.

Each clip then opens in an editor with 26 caption styles, and on Pro ($14/mo billed yearly) sound effects on key words, magic zoom, clean audio, AI music and dubbing are one click each. Pro also corrects eye contact (10 videos a month), which Opus Clip doesn’t offer. What StoryCut lacks: Opus Clip’s volume and posting (no scheduling, no API, no mobile apps) and CapCut’s timeline (no manual cutting or layers). Clips are 9:16 only, the free plan adds a watermark, and StoryCut has no third-party reviews yet.
