Minutes or clips: how each one counts usage
Opus Clip counts minutes of uploaded video: 1 credit is 1 minute, and anything under a minute rounds up to 1 credit. A 60-minute podcast uses 60 credits, so Starter’s 150 credits cover two such episodes a month, and one Pro pack (300 credits) covers five.
Klap counts clips. Basic includes 100 clips a month, and each new video needs at least 10 clips left in your allowance, so Basic works out to about 10 videos a month. Klap’s blog lists a 45-minute cap per video on Basic, 2 hours on Pro and 3 hours on Pro+, although other Klap pages mention longer limits, so an hour-long episode may need Pro. Yearly billing costs about half the monthly price, and Klap is testing whether it shows its limits as clips, uploads, minutes or exports, so read your checkout page.
A worked example, four one-hour episodes a month: Opus Clip needs 240 credits, which fits one Pro pack ($14.50/mo billed yearly, or $29 monthly). On Klap, the 45-minute Basic cap points to Pro ($39/mo billed yearly, or $79 monthly), which includes 300 clips.
Billing, refunds and what reviewers complain about
The refund terms are very different. Opus Clip’s terms say no refunds; the one exception is that Pro users can get a project’s credits back within 14 days if nothing from it was downloaded. Klap’s terms allow a refund before the end of your first month and for up to 3 consecutive months with zero usage; on yearly plans you get a full refund in the first month, then 1/12 for each zero-usage month, up to 3.
Billing is also the main theme in both tools’ low reviews. Klap scores 3.7 on Trustpilot from 50 reviews, 32% of them 1-star: reviewers describe an unexpected annual charge of over $800, trouble finding how to cancel, and slow editing. Opus Clip scores 4.0 from 501 reviews, and some 1-star reviews describe charges after cancelling. Whichever you choose, note your renewal date.
One more thing to watch: an Android app called “Klap Ai” on Google Play is not made by Klap. Klap itself is web only.

Which should you choose?
Choose Opus Clip if you clip long recordings, such as 2-hour podcasts or streams, want the clips finished with Auto SFX, B-roll or dubbing, post from your phone, or hand clips to an editor in Premiere or DaVinci. Its free plan watermarks, and Starter is sold monthly only.
Choose Klap if price matters most, you want to test without a watermark, you need captions in more languages, or you want to pay per clip through an API. Check the length cap for your plan first, since long episodes may push you to Pro.
So, is Klap better than Opus Clip? For a watermark-free start, lower yearly prices and refund flexibility, yes. For long videos, finishing features and mobile apps, Opus Clip is ahead.
Where StoryCut fits
Disclosure: StoryCut publishes this comparison. StoryCut is not a dedicated clip finder like Opus Clip or Klap, but its AI clips cover the same first step: paste a YouTube link (up to 2 hours) or upload a video of 2 to 150 minutes, and it returns 3 to 12 vertical clips with captions, a 0 to 100 virality score and reframing around faces and the active speaker. It counts long videos, not minutes or clips: 1 a month on Free, 10 on Starter ($7/mo billed yearly), 50 on Pro and 100 on Business, so a 2-hour episode counts as one.
Each clip then opens in an editor with 26 caption styles, and on Pro ($14/mo billed yearly) sound effects on key words, magic zoom, clean audio, AI music and dubbing in 33 languages are one click each. Pro also corrects eye contact (10 videos a month), which Opus Clip doesn’t offer and Klap doesn’t list. What StoryCut lacks: mobile apps, posting and scheduling, an API, and clip formats other than 9:16. It returns at most 12 clips per long video, its free plan adds a watermark, and it has no third-party reviews yet.
