Kapwing Alternatives in 2026: Free Plans, Credits and Prices Compared

Kapwing is a solid team editor with 4K, 2-hour exports on Pro. If its credits run out, its 10-credit free plan is too small to test with, or its no-refund policy worries you, here is how seven alternatives compare. Prices checked on each tool’s website on October 3, 2026. StoryCut is our product.

Kapwing alternatives: the short answer

Short answer
For a free plan you can actually test with: Clipchamp (1080p, no watermark) or CapCut (free editor). For the closest browser editor: VEED. For captions, sound effects and zooms placed for you, without credits: StoryCut. For transcript editing: Descript. For template captions on short clips: Submagic. For clipping long videos: Opus Clip.
Kapwing’s prices
Free: 10 credits for the life of the account, 720p with a watermark, exports up to 4 minutes. Pro: $24/mo or $16/mo billed yearly per member, 1,000 credits a month, 4K, exports up to 120 minutes. Business: $64/mo or $50/mo billed yearly, 4,000 credits. No trial of paid plans and no refunds.
How credits are spent
Subtitles 1 credit per minute; translation, clean audio and Repurpose Studio clips 2 per minute; dubbing 10 per 30 seconds; eye contact and lip sync 30 per minute; an AI song or sound effect 10 each. Smart Cut needs no credits.
Where Kapwing wins
4K and 2-hour exports on the $16 plan, team editing in a shared browser workspace, transcription in 155 language variants, dubbing in 40+ languages, and a published credit cost for every AI tool.
StoryCut
No credits: each plan sets videos at a time and video length. Captions start on their own in 49 languages and 26 styles; Pro ($14/mo billed yearly) adds sound effects on key words, magic zoom, clean audio, voice dubbing and eye contact (10 videos a month), with 1 free eye contact try on every account.

Why do people look for a Kapwing alternative?

Credits are the main reason. Kapwing’s Pro plan includes 1,000 credits a month, and its help center publishes what each tool costs: 1 credit per minute for subtitles, 2 per minute for translation or clean audio, 10 per 30 seconds of dubbing and 30 per minute of eye contact. A 10-minute video with subtitles, translation, clean audio and eye contact uses about 350 credits, so a few videos a month can use up the whole allowance. The free plan has 10 credits for the life of the account, not enough to try eye contact on even 1 minute of video, and free exports are 720p with a watermark, up to 4 minutes each. Kapwing has no trial of its paid plans and says it doesn’t issue refunds, so testing Pro means paying for it. It is also web only, with no phone app. In fairness, Pro is good value if you need long exports: 4K and up to 120 minutes for $16/mo billed yearly.

The alternatives, one by one

StoryCut

StoryCut

Best for: captions and effects without counting credits

StoryCut has no credits. Each plan sets how many videos you keep at a time (3, 20, 50 or 100), how long each can be (4, 7, 10 or 30 minutes) and how many long videos a month become AI clips (1, 10, 50 or 100); the features in your plan aren’t charged per use. Captions start on their own in 49 languages and 26 styles. Pro ($14/mo billed yearly) adds sound effects on key words, magic zoom, silence removal, clean audio, AI music, dubbing with voice cloning in 33 languages and eye contact (10 videos a month); Business adds unlimited eye contact and 5 team seats, and every account gets 1 free eye contact correction. It isn’t a timeline editor, team seats are Business-only, and videos you edit are capped at 30 minutes (AI clips accept 2–150 minute sources).

StoryCut Editor

VEED

Best for: the closest Kapwing-style editor

VEED is the most similar tool: a full browser editor with auto subtitles (unlimited on paid plans within a 50-hour monthly fair-use cap), Magic Cut, eye contact, AI B-roll and, from Pro, dubbing in 29 languages, plus an iPhone app. Creator costs $9.67/mo billed yearly ($20 monthly) and exports 1080p with no length limit; 4K needs Pro ($21.42/mo billed yearly). It uses monthly AI credits too.

Clipchamp

Best for: a free plan with no watermark

Microsoft Clipchamp’s free plan is what Kapwing’s isn’t: unlimited 1080p exports with no watermark, with auto captions in 80+ languages, silence removal and noise suppression, in Edge, Chrome or the Windows app. 4K comes with Microsoft 365 Personal ($9.99/mo). It has no phone app, and we found no eye contact, dubbing or clip tool.

CapCut

CapCut

Best for: free editing on phone and desktop

CapCut is a free multi-track editor on iOS, Android, Windows, Mac and the web, with a huge template library, AI sound effects and eye contact in the mobile app. Pro costs $19.99/mo or $179.99/yr after a 2026 price rise and adds 4K, 60fps and HDR export. Prices vary by region, and Pro assets add a watermark on the free plan.

Descript

Descript

Best for: editing long recordings by transcript

Descript lets you edit video by editing the transcript, in desktop apps for Mac and Windows or on the web. Hobbyist costs $16/mo billed yearly, the same as Kapwing Pro, and includes 10 hours of media a month, 1080p export, eye contact and dubbing in 30 languages; 4K starts on Creator ($24/mo billed yearly). AI tools spend credits, and Hobbyist can’t buy more.

Submagic

Submagic

Best for: template captions on short clips

Submagic is faster than Kapwing for one job: captioning short clips with templates, including Hormozi 1–5 themes. Eye contact, auto zoom and clean audio start on Pro ($23/mo billed yearly), and Starter ($12/mo billed yearly) caps videos at 2 minutes and 15 a month. Its help center says it doesn’t give refunds either.

Opus Clip

Opus Clip

Best for: clipping long videos on any device

Opus Clip replaces Kapwing’s Repurpose Studio if clipping is your main job: it finds clips with a virality score and auto-posts them, with web, iOS and Android apps. Starter is $15/mo (monthly only); Pro ($14.50/mo billed yearly) adds auto sound effects, dubbing in 25 languages and 4K. Credits are counted per minute of uploaded video, and it has no eye contact correction.

Should you switch from Kapwing?

Stay with Kapwing if you export long videos in 4K, edit with a team in the browser, or need dubbing and lip sync in many languages: Pro at $16/mo billed yearly is strong value for that. Switch if credits are what limits you. If you mostly add captions, sound effects, zooms and eye contact to short talking videos, StoryCut includes those in its plans instead of charging per minute; in Kapwing, eye contact on a 10-minute video costs 300 credits on its own. If you want a free editor with no watermark, use Clipchamp. If you want a similar editor with unlimited subtitles on paid plans, try VEED. Because Kapwing has no trial and no refunds, test any replacement on the same video before you renew.
