Clipchamp Alternatives in 2026: 6 Editors Compared
Microsoft Clipchamp is a good free editor, with 1080p exports and no watermark. People look elsewhere when they need a phone app (the iOS app was retired on June 9, 2026), animated captions for short videos, or AI help beyond basic edits. Checked on each tool’s website on October 3, 2026. StoryCut is our product.
- Free plan, no credit card
- Free exports are 720p with a watermark
Clipchamp alternatives: the short answer
- Short answer
- Keep Clipchamp if you want a free, simple editor on a computer: few tools match free 1080p exports with no watermark. Look elsewhere for a phone app (CapCut on iOS and Android, Captions on iPhone), animated captions with effects placed for you (StoryCut), a fuller browser editor (VEED or Kapwing) or editing by transcript (Descript).
- Clipchamp’s plans
- Free: as many exports as you like, up to 1080p with no watermark, plus AI captions, silence removal, noise suppression and text-to-speech. Premium features (4K exports, premium stock, filters and effects, a brand kit) come with Microsoft 365 Personal at $9.99/mo or $99.99/yr, or Family at $12.99/mo or $129.99/yr.
- Where it runs
- In Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome on a desktop or laptop (including Chromebooks), and as a Windows app built into Windows 11. The iOS app was retired on June 9, 2026, there is no Android app, and the web editor isn’t optimized for iPads or tablets.
- What we didn’t find
- Animated word-by-word caption presets, AI eye contact, automatic sound effects, voice dubbing or a tool that cuts long videos into clips. Captions are made in one language per video.
- StoryCut
- A short-form editor in the browser that also works on phones. Captions start on their own in 49 languages and 26 animated styles; Pro ($14/mo billed yearly) adds sound effects on key words, magic zoom and voice dubbing; every plan turns long videos into clips. Free exports are 720p with a watermark, so Clipchamp’s free plan is more generous.
Why do people look for a Clipchamp alternative?
Clipchamp is built for simple edits: trims, text, transitions, stock clips and slideshows, with good free AI tools such as auto captions in 80+ languages, silence removal (it finds pauses over 3 seconds), noise suppression and 400 text-to-speech voices. The reasons to switch are about what it isn’t. It isn’t a phone editor any more. Its captions are styled by hand (font, size, colors, outline and shadow), and we found no animated word-by-word presets on its site, which is how most TikTok, Reels and Shorts captions look now. We also found no tool to cut a long video into clips, no eye contact correction, no automatic sound effects and no voice dubbing. And 4K needs a Microsoft 365 subscription. If you make slideshows, school or work videos, those gaps may not matter. If you post short talking-head videos every week, a short-form tool saves time.
What changed for Clipchamp in 2026
Two changes send people looking. On June 9, 2026, Microsoft stopped supporting the Clipchamp iOS app. Its support page says projects stored only in the app and not exported as MP4 files were to be deleted, while "the Clipchamp web and desktop applications will remain fully functional." So Clipchamp is now a computer editor only: Edge or Chrome on Windows, Mac, Linux or ChromeOS, plus the Windows app. The second change is how premium is sold. Clipchamp’s pricing page now points to Microsoft 365 Personal and Family for premium features, which bundles 4K exports and premium stock with Word, Excel, Copilot and 1 TB of OneDrive storage. Microsoft’s support pages still mention a standalone Clipchamp Premium plan, but the pricing page doesn’t list its price, so check inside the editor before you buy. The free plan didn’t change: it still exports 1080p with no watermark.

The alternatives, one by one
StoryCut
Best for: animated captions and clips for short videos
StoryCut picks up where Clipchamp’s captions stop. Upload a talking video and captions start on their own, in 49 languages and 26 animated styles, including 6 Hormozi-style presets and a MrBeast-style one. Paste a YouTube link or upload a 2–150 minute video and AI clips returns 3–12 vertical clips with captions and active-speaker reframing, on every plan. Pro ($14/mo billed yearly) adds sound effects on key words, magic zoom, clean audio, AI music and voice dubbing. It works in desktop and phone browsers but has no app, and it isn’t a timeline editor for slideshows or multi-clip edits. Free exports are 720p with a watermark.

CapCut
Best for: a free editor on your phone
CapCut is the most direct move for former Clipchamp iOS users: a free multi-track editor on iOS, Android, Windows, Mac and the web, with templates, auto captions, and AI sound effects and eye contact in the mobile app. Pro costs $19.99/mo or $179.99/yr after a 2026 price rise, prices vary by region, and Pro assets add a watermark on the free plan. Its global terms give CapCut a perpetual, sub-licensable licence to content you upload.
VEED
Best for: a fuller editor in the browser
VEED is a step up from Clipchamp in the browser: dynamic word-synced subtitles, Magic Cut, eye contact, AI B-roll, a clip maker and, from Pro, voice dubbing in 29 languages, plus an iPhone app. Creator costs $9.67/mo billed yearly ($20 monthly) and exports 1080p with no length limit. Its free plan is weaker than Clipchamp’s: 720p with a watermark and 10 minutes of subtitles a month.
Kapwing
Best for: team editing in the browser
Kapwing is a collaborative browser editor with word-by-word subtitles in 100+ preset styles, Repurpose Studio for clips, dubbing in 40+ languages and eye contact, paid in credits. Pro ($16/mo billed yearly) exports 4K videos up to 120 minutes. The free plan has 10 credits for life and exports 720p with a watermark, and there is no trial and no refund.
Descript
Best for: editing recordings by transcript
If you use Clipchamp for tutorials or meeting recordings, Descript is the natural upgrade: you edit the video by editing its transcript, and Hobbyist ($16/mo billed yearly) adds filler-word removal, eye contact and dubbing in 30 languages. It has desktop apps for Mac and Windows and a web app, but no mobile app.

Captions
Best for: AI editing on iPhone
Captions has a 4.7-star iPhone app (over 38,000 App Store ratings) with AI Edit, animated caption templates, eye contact from Basic ($9.99/mo) and, on Max ($24.99/mo), Clips from videos up to 3 hours. It runs on credits that are spent even if you don’t export, and Android only gets Captions Lite.

Should you switch from Clipchamp?
Stay with Clipchamp if you edit on a computer and make slideshows, tutorials, school or work videos: a free editor with 1080p exports and no watermark is hard to beat. If you used the iOS app, CapCut is the most direct replacement on a phone. If you make short talking videos and want them to look like TikTok or Reels content, try StoryCut: animated captions appear on their own, and sound effects, zooms and transitions are one click each. You can also keep both: cut and assemble in Clipchamp, export, then upload the result to StoryCut for captions and effects.
